Spark, POVA and CAMON

Spark is the entry range - a current Android phone with a large screen and a usable camera for very little money, though HONOR and Xiaomi both start lower still. Spark Go sits below Spark.

POVA is the line to look at if battery life is your priority. These carry large batteries and fast charging, and they are aimed at people who game or who are away from a charger for long stretches. The POVA Pro and POVA Curve models move up into genuine mid-range territory.

CAMON is the camera line, and the CAMON Ultra models at the top of it are TECNO's most capable phones.

TECNO also makes the MegaPad tablet, which sits with the tablets rather than the phones.

Where TECNO makes sense and where it does not

It makes sense when the budget is genuinely tight and you are buying on screen size, battery capacity and storage per rial. A TECNO at OMR 50 is competitive on all three against anything else at OMR 50 - compare the specific models rather than the badges.

It makes less sense if you keep phones for many years. Software update commitments at this end of the market are shorter than at Samsung or Apple, and that - not the hardware - is usually what ends a budget phone's useful life.

Buy it as a two-to-three-year phone and it is excellent value. Buy it as a five-year phone and you may be disappointed for reasons that have nothing to do with the chip.

Software

TECNO phones ship with Google Mobile Services, so the Play Store and Google apps are present. The interface layer over Android is heavier than stock and comes with more preinstalled apps than most; several can be removed.

If a clean software experience matters more to you than the hardware you get for the money, that is a fair reason to look elsewhere at the same price.
