Reading Samsung's model names

Samsung runs several parallel lines and the names do not explain themselves, so here is the whole system in four lines.

Galaxy A is the value range and the number tells you the tier - A07 at the bottom, A56 near the top. Galaxy S is the flagship range, and within it Ultra means the largest screen, the largest battery and the telephoto camera. Galaxy Z Flip folds into a square for the pocket; Galaxy Z Fold opens into a small tablet. Galaxy Tab is tablets, with the S series above the A series, and FE meaning a cheaper version of a flagship.

For most people an upper A-series phone does everything an S-series phone does, more slowly and for a third of the money. The S-series earns its price on camera and on sustained performance, not on anything you notice sending a message.

Flip or Fold - they are not the same purchase

These cost similar money and suit completely different people, which is the most common confusion in Samsung's range.

Z Flip is a normal-sized phone that folds in half so it takes up less pocket. You buy it for size and for the cover screen. The internal screen is the same dimensions as an ordinary phone.

Z Fold is a phone that opens into a tablet. You buy it for screen area - reading, documents, two apps side by side. It is heavier and thicker folded than an ordinary phone.

One practical warning: check what is in the box. Some Samsung folding models ship without a charger, and the Fold8 Ultra does not support S Pen. Our listings say so on the page rather than leaving it to the unboxing.

Software support

Samsung's update commitment is among the longest in Android, which is the strongest argument for buying one over a cheaper rival. A phone that keeps receiving Android versions and security patches stays usable for years after the hardware stops being new.

The exact number of years is set per model and per region, so check the specific model with us rather than assuming the flagship policy applies to an entry-level A-series phone.

Paying with a Samsung device in Oman

Samsung does not list Oman among the markets where Samsung Wallet's payment feature is available, and Google Wallet tap-to-pay in Oman is currently limited to Ahlibank, Sohar International and Sohar Islamic.

So tap-to-pay from a Samsung phone or watch in Oman depends on who you bank with. Worth checking before you buy if that is a feature you are counting on.

Warranty on Samsung at Playphone

Playphone's warranty policy splits by product type rather than by brand. New phones and accessories - chargers, cables, earphones - get a fixed twelve months from the invoice date against manufacturing defects. Smartwatches, tablets and other gadgets are covered under the manufacturer's policy instead. Each product page states which applies.
