Camera smart glasses: the law on recording in Oman

Under Article 16 of Oman's Cyber Law, publishing pictures or footage of a person's private life without their consent carries up to three years' imprisonment and a fine of up to RO 5,000. This is enforced - Barka Primary Court sentenced a man to a year in prison and a RO 1,000 fine for photographing a woman without her knowledge.

The supplier's description of these glasses uses the word discreetly. We are not going to sell them on that basis. Worn openly and used with consent they are a useful tool for hands-free footage of your own work. Used the way the marketing suggests, they are a criminal risk to the person wearing them.

A 27,000mAh battery works out close to 100Wh, which is the threshold above which airlines require prior approval for a lithium battery in carry-on. If you intend to travel with it, check the Wh figure printed on the unit and clear it with your airline first.
