A-series or Reno

The A-series is OPPO's value range and it is broad - from the cheapest 4G models up to capable 5G phones around the OMR 100 mark. Within it the number roughly tracks the tier, and the letters matter: a 5G model costs more than the 4G version of the same number and is usually the newer chip.

Reno is where OPPO puts its camera work and its thinner, more considered designs. A Reno at OMR 150 to OMR 200 competes with mid-range phones from larger brands and usually beats them on build and on the front camera in particular.

The Reno Pro models at the top of the range are genuine flagships and priced well below the equivalent from Samsung or Apple.

What OPPO does well, and where to be careful

Charging speed is consistently a strength - OPPO has pushed fast charging harder than most and its phones refill quickly.

Front cameras are the other consistent strength, and if video calls or self-portraits are a large part of how you use a phone, that is worth weighing.

The thing to check is the software update commitment on the cheaper A-series models, which is shorter than on the Reno line. If you keep a phone for four or five years, ask us about the specific model.

4G or 5G in the A-series

Several A-series phones exist in both. The 5G version costs more and is generally the newer platform with better update support, which is often the stronger argument than the network speed itself.

Oman's 5G coverage supports the case: 5G reached about 91% of the population across roughly 5,893 sites by the end of 2024, and all three operators now publish coverage above 90%. If the price gap is under about OMR 10, take the 5G model.
