The current iPhone line-up, 12 configurations from OMR 250.000. Storage and colour change the price more than most people expect, so compare like for like before you decide which model you want.

Earlier generations - iPhone 16, 15, 14 and 13 - are listed separately at iPhone (previous generations), and are usually the better value if you are not chasing the newest camera.

Which iPhone should you actually buy?

Start with what you do with the phone rather than with the model names. If the camera is the reason you are buying an iPhone, only iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max have a dedicated telephoto camera - iPhone 17 and iPhone Air reach 2x by cropping into the main sensor instead. That is the single hardware difference that most changes what your photos look like. If you take photos of people and places in daylight, the standard iPhone 17 produces results close enough that the extra outlay is hard to justify.

Storage is the decision people get wrong most often. 128GB is workable if your photo library lives in iCloud and you delete as you go; it is not workable if you shoot video, keep music offline, or plan to hand the phone down in three years. Moving up one storage tier costs less than replacing the phone early.

iPhone Air is the thin one. It trades battery capacity and a second rear camera for size and weight. People who carry a phone in a shirt pocket love it; people who finish a day at 8% should not buy it.

iPhone 17e - where it fits

The 17e is Apple's cheaper current-generation phone. It uses the same broad software support as the rest of the line, which is the main reason to buy an iPhone at all, while cutting back on camera hardware and finish.

Judged against Android at the same money it is a different proposition: fewer megapixels and fewer features on paper, more years of iOS updates in practice. Which of those matters more depends on how long you keep a phone. If you replace every two years, Android at this price gives you more hardware. If you keep a phone for five, the update window is the thing that decides when it becomes unusable.

eSIM, dual SIM and Omani networks

Omantel offers eSIM on both Baqati and Hayyak lines and Ooredoo offers it on its Oman plans, so an eSIM-only or dual-SIM-plus-eSIM phone is usable here, so an iPhone that uses eSIM is fully usable here. Apple's Middle East models generally keep a physical SIM tray alongside eSIM, but the arrangement varies by region and by generation - ask us for the model number of the exact unit before you order if you need two physical SIMs.

Apple Pay in Oman

Apple Pay works in Oman with Ahli Bank, American Express, Bank Dhofar, Bank Muscat, Bank Nizwa, Meethaq, National Bank of Oman, Oman Arab Bank, OMpay and Sohar International. Setting it up takes a couple of minutes in the Wallet app and works at any contactless terminal.

By comparison, Google Wallet tap-to-pay in Oman is currently limited to Ahlibank, Sohar International and Sohar Islamic, which is a narrower list. If paying by phone matters to you and your bank is not one of the three, that is a real argument for iPhone in Oman specifically - not a general claim about which platform is better.

What is in the box, and what is not

Apple has not included a power adapter with an iPhone since 2020. A cable is included; a plug is not. If you do not already own a USB-C adapter, add one - a 20W Apple adapter is the baseline, and a 40W adapter charges the Pro models faster.

AppleCare is not sold by Playphone. Your cover is the 12-month warranty against manufacturing defects described in Playphone's warranty policy, which does not cover dropped or liquid-damaged phones. A case and a screen protector are the cheap version of insurance.

Buying an iPhone in Oman without getting caught out

Three things worth checking with any seller, including us. First, that the box is sealed and the IMEI on the box matches the phone and the invoice - do this before you accept delivery. Second, that the price quoted is the price including VAT, which oman's standard vat rate is 5%, in force since 16 april 2021. Third, that the unit is new rather than refurbished; a refurbished iPhone is a legitimate product but it is not the same thing and should not be priced as if it were.
