FIT or GT - which shape suits you

This is mostly a question of how you want the watch to look and feel rather than what it does. WATCH FIT is rectangular and lighter; WATCH GT is round and more traditional.

The rectangular screen shows more of a message or a workout metric at a glance. The round case reads as a watch rather than as a fitness device. Neither is better - but if you have a smaller wrist, the FIT is usually the more comfortable of the two.

Both pair with iPhone and Android, both track the same core set of health metrics, and both are built around going days between charges.

FIT 4, FIT 4 Pro, FIT 5 and FIT 5 Pro

The number is the generation and the Pro suffix is the higher-specified version within it - better materials, a more complete sensor set and, on the FIT 5 Pro, a larger 45mm case against the standard 43mm.

If you want the newest platform, start at FIT 5. If you want the most watch for the money, the previous generation's Pro model often beats the current generation's standard model on specification at a similar price. Compare the two directly on the product pages rather than assuming the higher number wins.

Training, running and the heat

GPS is built in, so runs record without your phone in your hand. The workout modes cover the usual ground and the running plans are more useful than most bundled software.

One Oman-specific note: a screen that is readable in direct sun matters more here than in most markets, and it costs battery to keep the display bright. If you train outdoors in daylight, set the brightness higher and expect to charge more often than the headline figure suggests.
