One thing to read first: Huawei phones and tablets do not include Google services. The watches, bands and earbuds are unaffected and work with iPhone and Android alike.

Google services: what this means and what it does not

Huawei phones and tablets run HarmonyOS and ship without Google Mobile Services. There is no Google Play Store, no Gmail app and no Google Maps from the store. Huawei's AppGallery is the alternative and covers a lot of ground, including most banking apps used in Oman.

This is a real difference and we state it on every Huawei phone and tablet listing. If you depend on a specific Google app - Google Classroom for a child's school, Google Workspace for work - check with us before ordering rather than after it arrives.

It does not apply to the rest of the range. A HUAWEI WATCH GT, a WATCH FIT, a Band 11 or a pair of FreeBuds pairs with an iPhone or an Android phone through the HUAWEI Health app, which is on the iOS App Store and supports iOS 13.0 and later. Those products have nothing to do with Android apps in the first place.

Where Huawei is genuinely the best option

Wearables that work with an iPhone. Apple Watch needs an iPhone and Samsung's Galaxy Watch 4 and later will not work with one at all - Samsung says so on its own support pages. Huawei's watches pair with both platforms, which makes them the obvious choice for an iPhone owner who does not want an Apple Watch, or for a household with both.

Battery life. The WATCH GT and WATCH FIT lines are built around going days between charges rather than hours, which is the difference between a watch that tracks your sleep and a watch that spends every night on a charger.

PaperMatte tablets. The etched display on the MatePad PaperMatte range is among the best surfaces to write on at any price, and it cuts glare in bright sunlight.

The MatePad range

MatePad SE is the affordable end, MatePad 11.5 and 12X sit in the middle with the PaperMatte option, and MatePad Pro is the top. Several are listed with a keyboard and pen included, which changes the value calculation considerably - check the product title.

All of them carry the no-Google-services caveat. As a note-taking, drawing, reading and media tablet they are excellent. As a device for a school running Google Classroom, they are the wrong purchase.

Warranty

Playphone's warranty policy splits by product type rather than by brand. New phones and accessories - chargers, cables, earphones - get a fixed twelve months from the invoice date against manufacturing defects. Smartwatches, tablets and other gadgets are covered under the manufacturer's policy instead. Each product page states which applies.
