HONOR separated from Huawei in November 2020 and its phones ship with Google Mobile Services. The Play Store is present. This is the single most common question about the brand and the answer is straightforward.

HONOR and Google - the short answer

HONOR was sold by Huawei in November 2020 and has operated independently since. That separation restored its access to Google, and HONOR publishes its GMS support directly: Google Mobile Services is described on HONOR's own site as the collection of Google applications and APIs including Gmail, YouTube and the Google Play Store.

So an HONOR phone behaves like any other Android phone. Play Store, Gmail, Maps, banking apps, everything.

Huawei devices are the ones without Google services, and they are a separate brand at Huawei. Confusing the two is easy and consequential.

The HONOR range

Magic is the flagship line, including the folding Magic V models - genuinely competitive with Samsung's folding phones and often at a lower price.

X-series covers the value and mid-range, and it is where most HONOR phones sold in Oman sit. HONOR Play and HONOR CHOICE sit below that at the entry level.

HONOR Pad is the tablet range, and the Papermatte models are worth singling out: an etched display with a paper-like texture that makes handwriting feel closer to pen on paper and cuts glare in bright light - which in Oman is a practical benefit rather than a specification.

Where HONOR competes hardest

Two places. At the bottom of the phone market, where the CHOICE and Play models undercut almost everything with a usable specification. And at the top, where the Magic V folding phones cost less than the equivalent Samsung while matching much of it.

The middle of the range is more crowded and the decision there comes down to which specific model is on offer rather than to the brand.
